Join me for a Grief Writing Workshop —
In this workshop, we will explore filmmaker Kirsten Johnson’s notion that it is never too late to get to know someone you love more deeply, even after they are gone. We will explore our loss and our lost loved ones through creative writing, with the hope (and the belief) that this communal work will be of use to all of us as we move through our grief process(es). The course is appropriate for those who already have projects underway as well as for those who don't, and for those who might just be curious to see what writing can do for them; we will generate new work as well as share with one another. This workshop will meet online for five weeks, with five sessions of 1.5 hours each. The workshop will be capped at 8 people. Please do not sign up for this workshop unless you feel you are able to share openly about your loss and your lost person without doing undue harm to yourself.

Testimonials from past courses:
This course provided me with the structure for sharing new work in a very supportive environment. The group discussion facilitated by Nellie Hermann and her detailed written commentary gave me not only affirmation but also clear direction for revision and development. This was my first on-line course and I was so pleased that Nellie dedicated the same care, focus, and expertise that she does to her other teaching. I felt like we were all in the same room together. It was a wonderful experience and I learned a lot! — Barbara K. Seeber
I had the privilege of participating in one of Nellie's writing workshops in December 2019. Her insight, close reading, deep listening, and guidance in the writing and revision processes were invaluable! As a reader, she has a way of deeply examining text/narrative and asking questions of the writer, which elicits new ways for the writer to interact with their piece(s). Her fresh perspective gives space for both the reader and writer to hold the narrative in a light that illuminates the heart of how the writer wants to connect with the reader. If you have a chance to participate in one of Nellie's writing workshops, DO IT! As a creative and a writer you will so happy you did! - Erin Batog
Nellie’s writing workshop format offered an exhilarating mix of vulnerability and supportive response to a writing project in its nascent phases. I found feedback from this group at this stage challenged me to true up my story to my intention. It gave me a clear sense of where the work needs to grow—and reassured me about what is already valuable. — Alexis Rehrmann

I appreciated the diverse levels of experience among the other writers! It was an excellent opportunity! Thank you Nellie!! — Michele Torres
It has been ages since I have participated in creative writing. Thank you for setting a collaborative generative tone with our class through our first exercise and reading - thinking about how we can contribute to one another's projects. I valued the opportunity to begin to construct a story based on real-life experience. Your feedback was thoughtful, individualized and extremely helpful. The members of the class also expanding my thinking and contribute to considering various story lines. Wonderful to learn from our diverse group. - Janet M. de Groot
